Conscious tourism is a new concept within tourism theory that adopts the American ancestral view that human beings and nature are all connected. This makes contaminating and predatory tourism unacceptable. Conscious tourism is the conceptual basis of ecotourism and sustainable tourism, and a creative proposal from Ecuador to the world to counteract the negative effects of commercial tourism. Conscious tourism aims to make each trip an experience of transformation of consciousness, and this is achieved by fostering contact with nature and with people, in a framework of respect and solidarity.
